System Requirements
T-Sketch is a GPU-accelerated web application that runs in your browser. It uses WebGL 2.0 for rendering, which means it relies heavily on your graphics hardware for a smooth experience.
Browser Support
T-Sketch works best in modern browsers with full WebGL 2.0 support:
| Browser | Minimum Version | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Google Chrome | 90+ | Recommended |
| Microsoft Edge | 90+ | Recommended |
| Mozilla Firefox | 90+ | Supported |
| Safari (macOS) | 15+ | Supported |
| Safari (iOS) | 15+ | Supported |
| Chrome (Android) | 90+ | Supported |
Chrome and Edge generally provide the best performance. We recommend keeping your browser up to date for the best experience.
GPU Requirements
Since T-Sketch uses WebGL 2.0 for all canvas rendering, your device needs a GPU that supports it. In practice, most computers and tablets from the last 10 years will work fine.
Recommended Minimum
- Dedicated GPU: Any modern dedicated GPU (NVIDIA, AMD)
- Integrated GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4000 or newer, Apple M1 or newer
- Mobile: Most modern phones and tablets with GPU support
What Affects Performance
- Number of objects: Large scenes with thousands of objects require more GPU memory and processing power
- Background effects: Animated backgrounds (Stars, Ocean, Plasma, etc.) use additional GPU resources. If you experience low frame rates, try switching to a static background
- Vector effects: Animated brush effects (Fire, Glow, Neon, etc.) are more GPU-intensive than raster or ink brushes
- Canvas zoom level: Very low zoom levels (viewing the entire scene) require rendering more objects simultaneously
T-Sketch includes an Adaptive Performance Guard that automatically pauses animations when the frame rate drops below 8 fps, so the application remains usable even on lower-end hardware.
Memory
| Requirement | RAM |
|---|---|
| Minimum | 4 GB |
| Recommended | 8 GB or more |
Larger sketches with many images and attachments will use more memory. If your browser tab becomes slow, try closing other tabs to free up resources.
Internet Connection
T-Sketch requires an internet connection for:
- Loading and saving sketches
- Real-time collaboration features
- Symbol catalog search
- Image and attachment storage
A broadband connection (10+ Mbps) is recommended for smooth collaboration. The application uses optimistic updates and batched synchronization to minimize the impact of network latency.
Input Devices
T-Sketch works with a mouse or trackpad, but drawing with a mouse or finger can be tiring and limiting. For the best experience with illustration, note-taking, and freeform sketching, we strongly recommend a pressure-sensitive input device.
Recommended: Graphics Tablet
A dedicated graphics tablet connected to your computer (like a WacomIntuos or Cintiq) gives you pressure sensitivity, tilt detection, and natural pen-like control. This is the best option for extended drawing, illustration, and architectural sketching sessions.
Recommended: Pen-Capable Tablet
Using a pen-capable tablet like an iPad with Apple Pencil provides an excellent drawing experience with pressure sensitivity, tilt support, and palm rejection handled by the browser. You can use the iPad as a drawing surface connected to your computer over the network (via Sidecar or similar), or use T-Sketch directly in the iPad's browser for a portable experience.
For efficient collaboration, we recommend connecting a pen tablet to your computer so you can draw naturally while using a large monitor to see the full canvas and your collaborators' work.
Stylus Features
T-Sketch takes advantage of stylus capabilities reported by the browser:
- Pressure sensitivity — controls stroke width and opacity for natural, expressive lines
- Tilt detection — supported for pen angles on compatible hardware (Wacom, Apple Pencil)
- Palm rejection — handled by the browser and operating system, so you can rest your hand on the screen while drawing
Touch Screens
T-Sketch supports touch input on mobile devices and touch-screen laptops. Multi-touch gestures like pinch-to-zoom and two-finger rotation work as expected. However, finger drawing lacks the precision and pressure sensitivity of a stylus.
PWA Installation
T-Sketch can be installed as a Progressive Web App (PWA) on your device for a more app-like experience:
- Desktop: Chrome and Edge offer an "Install" option in the address bar
- iOS: In Safari, tap Share and then "Add to Home Screen"
- Android: Chrome will prompt you to install, or use the menu option
The PWA version runs in a standalone window without the browser chrome, which gives you more screen space for your canvas. It also caches assets for faster loading.
